SEA PARADE AND TALL SHIPS

The Marmaris International Maritime Festival will begin with a sea parade. The parade of the domestic and foreign vessels at the Marmaris Port will create a quite different atmosphere with the participation of the tall ships. These ships which have many fans throughout the world will give a novel touch to the inauguration of the second festival.

COLORS CEREMONY AND FESTIVAL TORCH

The flags of the participant countries will be hoisted as an expression of the dictum of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Atatürk, “Peace at home, peace in the world”. The festival monument torch will be fired in commemoration of the Turkish Admiral Emir Çaka Bey who founded the Turkish Fleet and as a symbol of the Turkish Navigation which was launched by him in Çesme in 1081.

Nearly 40 countries are expected to participate in the second festival which will be held between May 2 and 8, 2008. The flags of these countries will take their places at the Marmaris Atatürk Monument in order to show the beginning of one of the biggest meetings of the world mariners.

FESTIVAL INAUGURATION AND PARADE

Following lighting the festival fire, all participant groups will launch the enthusiastic festival parade accompanied by the bands. During the parade, the demonstration groups and bands within colorful costumes will perform brief shows. The festival parade will be broadcast live on TV channels.

During the inauguration of the first and largest maritime festival of Turkey and the Mediterranean, a great feast will be staged both in the sea and on the land. The mariners in traditional cloths, dance groups, corsairs and pirates which jump out of the window of the history, the sea parade of the military and civil vessels, the bands and music groups of different countries, sportsmen, scouts and many other groups coming from far regions of the world will captivate all the viewers in the proper sense…

MARITIME EXHIBITION

The works of art which will be brought from the important maritime museums of Turkey and the world to Marmaris will be exhibited for those who wonder about the history of the navigation for one week. Many elements stretching from the old marine maps to the mariner cloths will be one of the most important cultural factors of the festival.

PANELS

The panels concerning the sea and maritime constitute the scientific aspect of the festival. At the meetings to be attended by the scientists and experts who will deliver speeches, the thoughts as regards the protection of the seas will be especially discussed.

MARITIME SCOUTING

During the first festival, only domestic scouting groups took place. However, foreign scouting groups will also be invited to the second festival which will be held in 2008. The sea scouts will establish their camps on the seaside and will compete among themselves throughout the festival and exchange views. At night, they will sing songs around the camp fire, will dance and have fun.

ARTISTIC ACTIVITIES ON THE SEA

The festival held in 2005 was a first in the navigation history since an artistic activity was held on the deck of a war vessel. Accompanied by the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, the Polyphony Chorus of the Culture and Tourism Ministry which took their place on the helicopter platform of the TCG Giresun Frigate affiliated to the Turkish Naval Forces sang the Turkish national anthem and a regimental flag handover “arya sancak” ceremony was held.

Following the ceremony, the orchestra and chorus conducted by Rengim Gökmen presented a musical feast for thousands of people who convened on the beach and millions of TV viewers with the concert held on the war vessel which was probably the first in the world.

During the 2008 festival, similar scenes will be probably experienced more frequently. Tens of civil and military vessels which will anchor the Marmaris port will open their decks for unforgettable activities. The beauty of the art will be wrapped with a more striking form on the water. We make an early recall especially for the programs to be held on the tall ships.

STREET SHOW GROUPS AND NAVY BANDS

At the festival, the show groups coming from different countries and regions of the world will perform demonstrations within colorful cloths. This will take place among the activities which will draw the highest attention of the people.

During the one-week, all around the city will be replete with dances and music day and night. The aesthetic and active figures of the dancers will accompany the mariner songs of the bands. Sometimes the Hungarian young girls, sometimes the Russian band and sometimes the Turkish Janissary Band will suddenly appear in front of you and prepare the most beautiful scene for you.

WATER SKIING AND SURF SHOWS
Various sports groups from Turkey and foreign countries will be invited to hold demonstrations. The group and individual demonstrations of the water skiing and surfing teams will be viewed by thousands of people on the beach. The water shows made from the vessels will form a unique background for the acrobatic activities. TURKISH NAVY SEALS DEMONSTRATION One of the most attractive activities of the festival will be the breathtaking demonstrations of the Turkish Navy Seals. The commandos which will hold a mini maneuvers in front of thousands of people will organize the most exciting and interesting demonstration of the festival on the Marmaris beach. The ropes hanging from the helicopters will carry tens of commandos and the speedboats will organize rescue operations in the sea. SUBMARINES-HISTORICAL VESSELS The interest in the replica of the Uluburun, an ancient merchant vessel thought to be one of the oldest shipwrecks dating back 3300 years ago and in Pirireis, one of the museum vessels of the Turkish Naval Forces during the first festival necessitated further preparations for the second estival. The centennial tall ships and modern war vessels will open their decks for the festival visitors and share their mystery. Please do not forget to book up for the demonstrations on the decks and vessel visits prior to the festival! CONCERTS During the festival, famous artists will perform a music feast among the light, laser and firework displays. The free-of-charge concerts and shows will entertain tens of thousands of people from inside or outside Marmaris both at the Amphitheater and at the Atatürk Monument. The entertainment will reach the peak with the great concert to be held on the closing night. SEA PARADE In the last day of the festival, the sea parade to be attended by the foreign vessels coming from many countries to Marmaris will say: “See you next time, Bye” for the visitors viewing the festival. The schooners, travel boats and sailing boats will initially greet the citizens who will convene along the coast at the Marmaris bay and then the mariners by passing through the vessels anchored on the port. The people who will convene along the coast will have great fun in an atmosphere accompanied by the songs played by the Naval Forces and Navy Command Bands. The vessels which will guide the convoy will add another color to the parade with their water shows. BOAT SHOW The last point reached in the maritime technology and the newest products will be promoted at this fair. During the fair which will remain open throughout the festival in the Marmaris city center, the renowned firms will be able to exhibit and sell their products.
