YACHTING RACES 2005 COMPETITIONS
The yacht races organised with technical support from the Marmaris International Yachting Club took place according to the race calendar of the Turkish Sailing Federation.
14 yachts, including one from the USA, and 105 competitors including referees raced determinedly in the course set outside the Marmaris Bay on 29th and 30th April.
The award ceremony was conducted at the Marmaris Marti Hotel. The Sailing Federation officials presented the cups to the first three contestants and gave out the participation certificates.
SAILING RACES 2005 COMPETITIONS
The ‘Federation Cup’ supported by the Turkish Sailing Federation and the Turkish Sailing Foundation authorities arranged sailing Races. It attracted huge participation as it provided the chance for national team selection.
Around 400 sailors, coaches and managers from 35 domestic sailing clubs participated in the sailing races. Besides the many centreboards there were 86 lasers and 143 optimists, totalling 229.
Races continued for four days and upon completion, the closure cocktail and reward ceremony took place on 1st May at Marti hotel, which also undertook the sponsorship of the races. In this context, medals to the ranked sailors in the categories determined by Turkish Sailing Federation and participation certificates to all participants were presented.
SWIMMING COMPETITIONS 2005 COMPETITIONS
OPENING CEREMONY OF THE SWIMMING POOL AND THE SWIMMING CONTESTS
The Opening of the Marmaris Municipality Olympic Swimming Pool, which was constructed in 138 days, was performed on 27th April 2005. Swimming contests were held between 28-30 April in six categories and were conducted with the participation of male and female swimmers born in 1990-1991.
The Director, the Vice Director, General Secretary and the press representative of the Turkish Swimming Federation came to Marmaris for the swimming contests.
There were 14 teams from 9 national, 3 foreign clubs and 2 foreign national teams. In total, 114 athletes and 36 staff, participating in the swimming contests. After the contests, the cups were presented to the fir5st three of each category according to age and gender.

GREASY MAST CONTEST 2005 COMPETITIONS
The greasy mast contest took place on 30th April, on a 10m long mast that was placed beside the Mermaid Statue in Marmaris.
At first, none of the contestants managed to grab the festival flag from the peak of the mast. When the amount of grease on the mast had decreased, only one contester, Cengiz Ozyilmaz, managed to succeed. The Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces presented his award to him. Also the participation certificates were given to all the contesters who demonstrated courage to participate
BEACH VOLLEY TOURNAMENT 2005 COMPETITIONS
Beach Volley contests were held under the coordination of the Turkish Volleyball Federation.
The beach, in front of the Marmaris Municipality, was arranged for the beach volley and 14 trucks of special sand were brought from Aydin in Cine for the contests. The Turkish Volleyball Federation organised the participation of 11 teams, including 5 referees, 3 coaches and 4 federation officials. The games were sponsored, and broadcasted live by the local TV channel ‘Channel 48’ and attracted a lot of interest from the local people.
The final games on the third day were watched by the Commander of the Turkish naval Forces, the Commander of the Fleet and the Commander of the South Sea Area and ended with the medal presentation ceremony.
SHIP MODELING CONTEST 2005 COMPETITIONS
Model Ship Makers and Ship Lovers Society formed the rules and regulations for the participation at the relevant web sites on the Internet. The contesters were selected following the evaluation of the entrants.
On 27th April 2005, 80 contesters from Turkey and 11 from Bulgaria participated with 134 models in total. The evaluations of the ship models wee made by the jury, composed of members from the Model Ship Makers and Ship Lovers Societies. The award ceremony was held at Pineta Hotel and the models were displayed in the exhibition hall.
CONTESTS AMONG SHIP CREW 2005 COMPETITIONS
One of the most important activities of the festival was the Rowing and Seamanship contest between the warships. Naval Shows and Contests Subgroup had started to study for this contest in November 2004. In that context, contest branches and the rules were determined and placed on the festival website in both Turkish and English.
Between dates 25th – 26th April 2005, the registration process for the participating ships was completed. The training of the ship’s rowing teams was made on 28th April. Elimination contests and the final race where held on 29th and 30th April 2005.
SUBMARINE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST 2005 COMPETITIONS
The rules and the application form for the contest were designated after a one month study, working with the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation and Quantum was the sponsor for the contest.
Kadirga Burnu was chosen for the diving, since it has the most colourful underwater nature and suitable environment for multi-diving. Dives were made on 30th April 2005 at two different sites with the participation of 30 divers and their partners.
SEAFOOD COOKING CONTEST 2005 COMPETITIONS
The contest was performed in Hotel Grand Yazıcı. The announcement was made to all the hotels in Marmaris. The well known cooks and Professional Kitchen Managers Society were contacted for their assistance.
Karadeniz Fishery Company, Armutalan Ice Factory, Pamukkale Wines, Goksoylar Fruits & Vegetables and Marmaris Baazar provided the equipment and necessary food. The contest was conducted on Sunday, 30th April 2005.
